Why transition to organics?

It's a question lots of conventional producers ask. What's in it for me?

Some producers will say that the premium is worth the work to certify. But that's not the full story.

Organic producers focus on profitability, not just yields. Depending how you get there, higher yields might not be enough to be profitable.

Why is that? Input costs.

If you're thinking about transitioning to organic, you might be frustrated with the amount of money you're sending off the farm to input companies and machine dealers for what could be only marginal gains, especially on a dry year.

You might have already calculated how much you'd save each year if you cut down the input, machinery, and fuel costs associated with applying fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, and dessicants through the growing season.

The math might just start to make a lot more sense.

Higher yields? No.

Less money going to input companies? Absolutely.

  • Keep your profits on the farm.

  • Build healthier soil and diversify your risk.

  • Get an organic premium.

  • Simplify certification paperwork with Shift Organics.

There could be an easier path to getting certified. Get a free two hour consultation on what transitioning could look like on your farm.
