If you've got pasture land ready to be put to different use, you could be ready for transitioning quicker than you think.
If you're selling cattle at the peak of the market, good for you! That can also mean that you've got pasture land that you're preparing to put back into production.
If that land has been pasture for 3 years or more, and hasn't had any chemical treatment, then you've already passed the transition period to certify those acres for growing an organic crop.
You've also got the bonus of healthy soil with an abundance of nutrients to push your crop yield, and your profits.
When you transition to organic production, you get more money for your grain, and you eliminate your inputs and a lot of your fuel costs. The result is higher pure profit, and more money in your pocket for your work.
So how to do you make the switch? It could be easier than you think but it's helpful to get some expert advice. Shift Organics has a software to assist with the paperwork, plus we have an advising team to get you started on the right path.
Are input costs eating into your profit margin? Do you feel like your working to pay chemical and seed companies? It might be time to try make the shift!
